Before coming to the States in 1982, I had a ST with a seat in the Main Stand at the "Vic", located just above the players tunnel, where I used to sit with my best mate Barry Manser, now from Watford and previously like me, from North Harrow. Barry took me to my first game at Watford with his Dad for the last home game at the end of the 1958-59 season. That game turned out to be a "memorable" one if only for the fact that the floodlights failed as Watford were losing 2-5 to Shrewsbury; which Shrewsbury needed to win to gain promotion. Needless to say, they won the replay of the game 4-1 and promotion.

That game was also the last time the "Blues" as Watford were known then, played in their traditional blue and white strip. At the start of the 1959-60 season they started to play in gold shirts and black shorts and soon were dubbed, "The Golden Boys". And it was that season that saw the pairing of two of the greatest players ever to wear a Watford shirt, Cliff Holton (the "Big Fella"), and Dennis Uphill. Between them that season they netted 84 league goals with Holton's 48, still remaining the Club record (42 league & 6 cup).

Most memorable games; Watford 7 Southampton 1 was an unbelievable night at the "Vic" in a second leg of a league cup game, Watford were 0-4 down from first leg but came back in true fighting fashion. And of course the 1984 appearance at Wembley in the FA Cup Final which I came home for with my wife, before we got married later that year.

I am now living in Southington, Connecticut with my wife andthree kids (all playing soccer), which is about midway between New York City and Boston in the northeast corner of the United States. I really hope Watford can make it into the Premiership League, so I can see them on the "Telly" over here every week.
