Mark Millward

My name is Mark Millward, I am 37 years old and I originally hail from Hemel Hempstead (I moved there when I was 3 and stayed until I was 27). My first Watford game was Mike Keen's last against Lincoln more years ago than I care to remember. We won the match 2-0 with both goals scored by Keith Mercer. The most memorable thing about the match though was Alan Mayes and Tony Geidmintis both being sent off in the first half. I can remember the referee and linesmen (as they were called in those days) all getting a police escort off the pitch at half time.

My most memorable experience with the Horns was actually playing against the first team when I was 17. My school (Halsey in Hemel Hempstead) was selected as the team I played in was one of the most successful in the county (we won almost every match we played from age 12 to when I left at 18). Graham Taylor brought the whole first team squad down and we played in front of a huge crowd (a little over 400 but hey, that was big for us!!). We were tonked 17-1 but we were the only side to score against the Horns of the four schools that were selected to play them. I got to meet all the players afterwards and remember that Ross Jenkins was very nervous because he was taking his Driving Test the following day. He had a copy of the Highway Code with him and Luther was testing him on road signs....classic stuff.

My favorite players were Andy Rankin (I was a keeper when I played), Keith Mercer, Tony Geidmintis and Luther. Of the more recent teams I liked David James, Tony Coton, Kenny Jackett, Jan Lohman, Wilf Rostron and Ian Bolton. My last visit to the Vic was a little over six years ago as not long afterwards I emigrated to New Zealand to work for Telecom New Zealand in Wellington. How did I end up in the States? Well I met my fiancée via the Internet would you believe and after spending a great vacation here I came over for good last year. We are now the proud parents of a four month old called Taine (who is NEWFC #14.5 by the way). I live in Croghan which is in Upstate New York about five hours drive north west of New York City. We are about fifty miles south of the Canadian border and it is very beautiful here. Having lived and worked in big cities all my life it's great to live in the country.

COME ON YOU HORNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
